Matthew Mitcham and Joan Rivers join 300,000 for Sydney Gay Mardi Gras

On March 7 hundreds of thousands of gays and gay-adjacents took to the streets of Sydney, Australia for the annual Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade, a celebration of the country’s LGBT community since 1978. This year nearly 100,000 participated in the parade, which drew 300,000 spectators. Among the boldface names were out gold-medal-winning diver Matthew Mitcham and, for some reason, Joan Rivers.
I hauled my pasty ass down to Sydney for Mardi Gras back in 2001 and it was seriously the most fun I’ve ever had outdoors in my entire life. Looking at these pictures takes me right back to Oxford Street … although I might possibly just be having some sort of acid flashback.
Enjoy!
